Kathryn Chu is a general and colorectal surgeon. She is the inaugural director for the Centre for Global Surgery at Stellenbosch University. Her main research interests are improving equitable access to surgical care in Africa. She has been involved in global health education and research on the continent for over a decade. She is a CUGH board member, a technical advisor for the WHO in integrated clinical care, and the former Vice-President for Medicins Sans Frontieres-Southern Africa, a humanitarian medical organization.
